El Dorado County Youth Commission 2014-15 now Accepting Applications
The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors and the El Dorado County Office of Education are accepting applications for the 2014-15 El Dorado County Youth Commission, which provides students the opportunity to become involved with their community and make a positive difference. Students are appointed by the County Board of Supervisors to help develop and express the opinions, ideas, and visions of El Dorado County youth by partnering with local government and community decision-makers. Through the program, students gain leadership skills and work toward common goals as they partner with other youth organizations, assist during local community service activities, and discover ways to better communicate with local youth about various opportunities available in El Dorado County.
Each student is a representative of a specific district in El Dorado County working in conjunction with that district’s county board supervisor. Throughout the year, the members of the Youth Commission work on projects that are important to the youth of the community. Ideas are brought forward from members of the commission and from youth throughout the county. Past projects have included providing support for the Sugarloaf Fine Arts Camp by participating in the Sugarloaf Stampede fundraising race, re-opening of the Placerville Skate Park, fundraising for youth scholarships, attending leadership conferences, and providing support for community youth organizations. Youth commissioners gain valuable experience in working with local government and community-based organizations while earning community service hours.
Applications are available on both El Dorado County and El Dorado County Office of Education websites at www.edcgov.us/BOS/ or www.edcoe.org. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, September 12.
