Opinion: Prada belongs in Berkeley
As longtime homeowner and conscientious water miser I have low-flow everything, zero lawn, drip emitters on everything I water and no swimming pool. I planted a few olive tree and grape vines to augment my meager social security income and provide organic food for my neighbors. I applied for and qualified for small farm status last year and plan on having a paying crop by 2015.
Well, along comes Willie Brown Prada with his Berkeley ideas of how government agencies should be run. We have a drought and there is less water to sell to us citizens so let’s raise rates and get more for less. EID has to adjust its budget accordingly, right? How about laying people off or reducing wages? How about not having a new building outright but leasing? How about firing engineers and managers who put a tunnel in the wrong place and cost the ratepayer blackmail to the Sierra Club?
No, Willie Brown Prada wants us to take the San Francisco or Berkeley approach and raise rates to users.
I say we recall this misfit and send him back to Berkeley.
