Woman arrested for DUI after Twin Bridges motorcycle fatalities
A South Lake Tahoe woman was arrested after a fatal accident involving a motorcycle that happened on Highway 50 at Twin Bridges on July Fourth.
Megan Olivia Donnelly Hickel, 28, was driving east in a 2001 Chevrolet Astrovan when she crossed over the center line and into a 2011 Harley Davidson riden by a man and a woman, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A Solano County couple was killed after being hit head-on by an alleged drunk driver while riding their motorcycle in South Lake Tahoe late on July 4, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Richard J. Schwab, 47, of Dixon, was driving a 2011 Harley Davidson west on Highway 50 near Twin Bridges with Kelly C. Schwab, 48, of Vacaville, as the passenger on Friday night, the CHP said.
At 11:44 p.m., an eastbound 2001 Chevrolet Astro Van traveling at a high rate of speed crossed into the westbound lane on Highway 50 and hit the motorcycle head-on, the CHP said.
Both riders were thrown from the motorcycle and died immediately of their injuries, the CHP said.
The driver of the van, Megan D. Olivia, 28, a South Lake Tahoe resident, was uninjured and evaluated on the scene for sobriety, the CHP said.
The officer on scene determined Olivia to be intoxicated and arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, the CHP said. Olivia was booked into El Dorado County Jail.
Richard and Kelly Schwab are survived by their three children, Jared, 14, Derek, 26, and Larissa, 28, according to a fundraising website set up by friends.
Hickel was uninjured in the accident. She was evaluated by a CHP officer and arrested on charges of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
