Cedar Springs Waldorf School expanding their Early Childhood program
Cedar Springs Waldorf School (CSWS) will be expanding their Early Childhood program this fall for the 2014/2015 school year. CSWS will offer three day ( through ), four day ( through ), and five day ( through ) classes. In addition, CSWS offers Extended Care - . All interested parents are invited to attend an Open House on Saturday, July 12, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
“The program changes were in response to requests from both current and prospective families,” CSWS Director of Community Development Jennifer Bumgarner explains. “These options allow us to better serve families that are seeking a quality program, in a nurturing home-like environment, five days per week.”
The licensed Early Childhood program at CSWS gently stimulates the development of curiosity, verbal capacities, sequencing, sensory integration, memory, social skills and motor skills that are essential for later learning and are the foundations for academic excellence. Students are in a learning environment that fosters development of their imagination as a foundation for creative and critical thinking, exploration of the natural world with their senses and a development of their attention and language skills. Young children learn by doing. Children in CSWS Early Childhood classes experience learning through story and circle time, painting, drawing, cooking, handcrafts, imaginative play and plenty of outdoor time in a nurturing environment.
Veronica Gunasekara, a Kindergarten teacher at CSWS with over 20 years of Waldorf teaching experience shares, "Early Childhood is a tender and vulnerable time. A child’s brain is open, malleable, sponge-like; every impression shapes the child’s development. Current research describes essential elements for promoting health and laying a strong foundation for our young. They include: plenty of time in nature, simplified surroundings and schedules, allowance for plenty of movement and imaginative free play, open ended toys and reduction/elimination of media exposure, to name a few. The tenets of Waldorf education are founded in this research. We provide a safe, creative environment, guided by healthy daily rhythms, which allow the child to explore freely and unfold its inherent capacities."
Cedar Springs Waldorf School invites all interested parents to attend a tour of their Early Child Program on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from . The tour will be hosted by Kindergarten Teachers Veronica Gunasekara and Christl Michele and Enrollment Director Monica Ness, who will guide parents through a tour of the three Early Childhood classrooms and play yard, including demonstrations of the children’s activities at differing age levels and an opportunity for discussion and questions. The tour will even include a delicious, wholesome Kindergarten snack for all visiting parents.
