Annual Ponderosa High School Sober Grad Night Saves Lives
Just imagine loading up more than 260 excited graduates onto coach buses right after they walk off the field from graduation ceremonies, and then driving them 90 miles away for an overnight party at a huge family entertainment complex. Add to that: food, beverages, games, live entertainment, souvenirs, and prizes — all in a fun, yet safe and secure environment that everyone can enjoy.
The annual Ponderosa High School Sober Grad Night party event is no simple task. But thanks to the year-long work of dozens of parents and volunteers, and with generous support of local businesses and the community, we made it look easy to the seniors and they had a wonderful time. On May 30 and May 31, we successfully rewarded them with their all-night graduation celebration. The event is designed to keep our party-seeking graduates safe and sober and off the roads on one of the statistically most dangerous nights of their lives.
The fact that readers are hearing about our PHS graduation night in the editorial section and not as a tragic story on the front page tells you all that you need to know. Sober Grad Night programs saves lives, pure and simple. We are so grateful for this worthwhile event each year (and the students love it, too). We simply want your readers to know not only that it occurs, but that it occurs with so much enthusiastic support of so many people who care about the safety and welfare of our youth.
A complete list of our supporters is on our Website at www.phssobergradnight.org and we ask that readers take a quick look and maybe take a moment to thank our many supporters again.
