Gliese 832c is just 16 light-years away in the constellation Grus. About half the weight and mass of the sun, it lies in a potentially habitable zone in orbit around a red dwarf star. We’d like to apply to be some of the first people to go and take a selfie on it.
What An Uber Driver Actually Makes
UberX allows pretty much anyone with a clean record, a car and the mental capacity to pass an online training course to work for the company. In recent weeks, the company has boasted that these adventurous drivers are making upwards of $90K per year. That sounds ridiculously high, right? Well, it is. Taking a closer look at the economics, a driver would have to work at least 58 hours per week just to make $75K per year.
NASA Tested A Flying Saucer Attached To A Balloon The Size Of A Football Field
A test for a future potential Mars landing craft went awry this weekend. An immense balloon intended to slow the rapid descent of a saucer before it touches down on the Martian surface failed to fully deploy. Instead of landing gently on the surface of the Pacific as NASA intended, the saucer plunged into the water at a terrific speed. While the splash was fun to watch, NASA officials clearly weren’t as amused as we were.
Minimum wage rises to $9 on Tuesday
Five things about what the change could mean for workers, employers and the economy. California’s low-end workers will all see bumps in their next paychecks as the first increase in the state’s minimum wage in six years takes effect.
