This Sunday is SUN-day - Come see our nearest Star
The sun will be very close to Earth this Sunday, June 22, and members of the community are invited to explore it like never before at the Community Observatory in Placerville. Attendees will have the chance to safely see its churning atmosphere and planet-sized sun spots through various telescopes designed for this very purpose. Solar experts will also discuss the past, present and future of our closest star that impacts our daily lives in incredible ways. The event is no-cost, and families are encouraged to enjoy activities like face-painting — the first 50 visitors will receive free solar glasses.
Similar events are happening around the world for International SUN-day 2014 — June 22, a day when social media and traditional communication tools will share the sun with the public.
The El Dorado County Office of Education, Cameron Park Rotary Club and the Folsom Lake College partner to make this innovative educational experience possible. Be sure to wear sunscreen and prepare to be fascinated.
The event information will be held Sunday at the Community Observatory at 6699 Campus Drive, Placerville, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
