Special Election to Fill vacant Board of Supervisor seat is Scheduled in September
The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors has adopted agenda item #21 setting an election on September 9, 2014 for the purpose of filling the vacancy in the office of Supervisor for District II.
Registrar of Voters explains the tasks and demands on staff. Asked for Sept 9th due to work for Nov 4th General Election. Estimate cost between $80,000 to $100,000. Truncated timeline for Special Election.
Special Election will get sworn in right away and will serve more than two years, making them subject to a maximum six years before term limits kick in.
On June 6, 2014 Former Supervisor Ray Nutting vacated the District 2 seat of the Board of Supervisors. This triggered a provision in the El Dorado County Charter for replacing Supervisors in a timely manner. In this case, a timely manner is 90-120 from the date the office becomes vacant.
The candidate having the highest number of votes at the special election shall be elected to fill the unexpired term.
Additionally, the BOS authorized the Registrar of Voters to take all actions necessary for the conduct of the special election, to canvas the results thereof and to certify the results to the Board of Supervisors.
Chair then signed Resolution 070-2014, setting the date for a special election on September 9, 2014, to fill the District II vacancy on the Board of Supervisors.
The nomination period for candidates will begin June 30 and conclude July 18, according to the county Elections Department.
