Raley’s launches 'Food for Families' campaign
This month, Raley’s Food For Families is launching a summer donation campaign designed to increase the availability of fresh fruits and vegetables at local food banks to families in need during the summer months.
The campaign will run now through July 31 to help increase donations of fresh produce to local food banks.
“Our vision for Food For Families is to offer greater access to fresh produce,” said Jennie Teel-Wolter, Raley’s community relations manager. “We know that families facing hunger are far less likely to eat a nutritionally complete diet and their access to fresh fruits and vegetables is often limited. By making fresh produce available to our partner food banks, we can help reverse this trend.”
Customers can donate to the program in four easy ways: At the check stand at all Raley’s, Bel Air or Nob Hill Foods; online at foodforfamilies.org; on Facebook at facebook.com/raleysfoodforfamilies.com; or by texting the keyword ENDHUNGER to 85944.
A hundred percent of all donations go towards feeding families in need in the community in which the donation was received.
“What makes this program so special is that every dollar donated stays local. When a customer donates in their community, their donation helps feed a family in that same community,” said Teel-Wolter. “It’s neighbors helping neighbors.”
With 1 in 6 Americans facing hunger and more than 50 million people living in food insecure households, this program will deliver much-needed nutritious stability to families throughout the region.
California and Nevada, the two states served by Food For Families, are among the top 10 states in the country with the highest percentages of hunger.
“During the school year families in need can rest assured knowing that their children will receive a free or reduced cost meal at school,” said Teel-Wolter. “However, during the summer, these children become vulnerable to food insecurity and this donation drive will ensure that local food banks have the healthy supply of produce they need to satisfy the needs of their respective communities.”
Raley’s will provide a matching donation for every dollar donated during the Summer Donation drive, up to $25,000, now through July 31.
