Pollock Pines church’s Memorial Day tribute
Pollock Pines Chiven memorial In honor of veterans, present-day military personnel and fallen heroes, Pollock Pines Community Church recently displayed war and peacetime memorabilia spanning many years beginning with the Civil War, World Wars I and II, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Iraq.
Under the coordination of Candy and Rocky Rioux, more than 200 items were displayed, including uniforms, medals, certificates, commendations and pictures. The items were on display over the Memorial Day weekend.
Brother Lance Kramer proudly displayed the helmet of Vietnam War veteran Dennis Kramer, which was featured in a special and separate display. Kramer, a Placerville resident, was a correspondent to the Mountain Democrat while in Vietnam, sending articles home about the war. He was killed in action.
The church’s Memorial Day tribute included a patriotic video in honor of fallen warriors. Boy Scouts passed out several hundred U.S. flags to those attending the service, as a special thank you to those who served in the military; a reminder that freedom is not free, it was bought with a price.
