Hangtown Kennel Club’s Dog Show May 24-26
A financial study done by the American Kennel Club has determined that each dog show event with entries of 1,000 dogs or more brings over $200,000 a day into that community in the way of business for hotels, restaurants, retail stores, gas stations, grocery stores and show event rentals, just to name a few. The Hangtown Kennel Club has hosted this event every year since 1988, continuing to bring those dollars to our community.
This year’s show will be held Saturday, May 24 through Monday, May 26, at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds, 100 Placerville Drive, in Placerville. This three-day show offers obedience, rally and all-breed (up to 190 breeds) competition.
A special canine talent contest will be held Sunday afternoon as a fundraiser for the El Dorado County Search and Rescue K-9 Unit. “Caninesʼ Got Talent” is open to the public. Competition starts at noon on Sunday before group judging begins. This gives dog owners the chance to enter a talent contest exclusively for dogs, showcasing their particular tricks or talent. The entry fee is $5 per canine contestant, collected at the education/announcer table. Entries are available all day Saturday and until 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 25, at which time entries close. Dogs do not need to be entered in that day’s AKC event.
