Fundraising Event for Kris Bingham, local injured man
Bingham is a 2009 Golden Sierra graduate whose life changed drastically on April 3. After he got off work from Mar-Val Food Store, he was heading west on Marshall Road. A tree had fallen across both lanes of the road as Bingham approached, and in the darkness it was not visible. His car crashed through the upper branches of the tree and he was severely injured.
Bingham was airlifted to Sutter Roseville, where the extent of his injuries were discovered. He suffered a fractured C2, crushed C6 and C7 vertebrae, and his spinal cord was completely severed, leaving no feeling or conscious use of any part of his body below his underarms.
He has partial use of the biceps muscles in his arms, some movement in his left wrist, a slight wiggle in his left thumb and pointer finger, and he is able to swallow and breathe on his own. While Bingham’s needs are many, the one thing vital to his survival is money.
Once he returns home, there will have to be a lift to help move him from a bed specially made for quadriplegics, a wheelchair and wheelchair accessible van equipped with a lift to get him to his physical therapy and medical appointments.
Bingham, 22, is an exceptional young man with a big smile, a quick laugh and a generous spirit and his community is now rallying to return some of that generosity and support.
The fundraiser will include a Rotary barbecue, various musical bands and the GS Junior Grizzlies cheer squad, kids’ activities, beer/wine sales, desserts, a snow cone stand, and other drink sales. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Kris Bingham trust, including a suggested donation of $10 for entry, but no one will be turned away for non-payment. This is a Georgetown Divide Recreation District community partner event.
