Misplaced Priorities: Money for unneeded bike trail, not needed sidewalk - Opinion
Why would the city of Placerville steal $119,000 in the Placerville Drive CIP program to build an unneeded $300,000 bike lane on Combellack Road? How many feet of sidewalk would $119,000 have provided for safety of pedestrians?
I drive Placerville Drive daily and see men, women pushing strollers and children dodging cars where there is no sidewalk, a bridge that is too narrow without sidewalks and is basically a pedestrian mine-field. That money should have gone to its intended purpose to fix Placerville Drive, which is much older and in need of many more repairs than Combellack Road.
The city knows better than this. When is the city going to use money to actually fix roads instead of spending the money on socialistic pork?
