Drunk Driving matters for Candidates for Elected Office - Opinon
While researching El Dorado County candidates online, I came across Mountain Democrat’s Jan. 18, 2011 DUI Log stating: “HOWARD PENN, 44, Coloma, booked Dec. 11 by CHP, held on $2,500 bail.”
The tragedy brought about by drunk drivers is frequently in the news. That is why community sectors such as law enforcement, parents, schools, health agencies, and organizations such as MADD spend time, money and effort on PSAs and programs like Oak Ridge High School’s Every 15 Minutes and Safe and Sober Grad Night.
Recently the news is filled with elected officials whom made unethical and illegal choices. How can we hope for our children to make good decisions and have respect for the law when too many of our leaders do not? As voters, we can do better. As election day approaches, please take the time to go online and research candidates for all offices to make informed decisions. As a program in our local schools teaches, “character counts.”
