Nutting trial - violating the public trust
The show trial of Ray Nutting is finally almost over. Thank god. Has anyone asked what this trial has cost the community or who has benefited from it? Is the DA’s Office so craven it has to bring cases like these when any reasonable person would have concluded there was little basis for doing so?
Pierson had the responsibility to look at the information collected from the investigation and decide whether or not to go forward. That he chose to prosecute in the face of no real case is evidence of a corrupt and inept DA. He and his bully boys have made a mockery of justice in this county by pursuing Nutting.
In saying this, I am not excusing Nutting, who may have used poor judgment at times. But filling out paperwork incorrectly is not a felony.
And how about his flying monkey Chuck Holland who bullied Judson Henry into quitting the campaign? Is that how Pierson plans to stay in power — by threatening anyone who challenges him with a background check done by flunkies like Holland? Or did Pierson do that using county resources and just feed it to the monkey so his hands would look clean? Is that the kind of DA anyone would want?
And then there is the weasel from the state Attorney General’s Office who should have known there was no case. The fact that he didn’t tells you a lot about the quality of lawyers working for the government. Does the state now have to trump up charges against people in order to justify its existence? Sorry, rhetorical question.
The deputy DA prosecuting Nutting repeatedly accused him of violating the public trust.
I’d say the only person guilty of that is the DA and he should resign or be recalled. He certainly doesn’t deserve to be reelected regardless of the jury’s decision in the Nutting case.
