19th Annual Student Map Drawing Contest
Again the student’s maps were outstanding, fantastic, amazing, brilliant, and just absolutely terrific. When you see all of these maps together in one place it becomes real obvious that our County has truly talented student cartographers.
This year we received approximately 350 maps. All students in El Dorado County grades Kindergarten through 12th are eligible to compete in this contest. The maps are hand drawn and based upon the geography curriculum for each student’s grade. We had 10 judges choose a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winner for each grade including the Open category. In addition, the judges selected another 85 maps that received honorable mention ribbons.
The awards were presented by the members of the Board of Supervisors at their regularly scheduled board meeting May 7, 2013. K through 12th grade received ribbons and prizes in the form of gift cards for $75 for 1st place, $50 for 2nd, and $25 for 3rd.
El Dorado County and the El Dorado County and Georgetown Divide Resource Conservation Districts hosts the contest and Surveyors, Architects, Geologists and Engineers (SAGE) is the sole sponsor of this contest. This year SAGE donated $4,000 and over the last 15 years has contributed over $40,000.
Peter Thorne, President of SAGE said “SAGE is honored to continue this long standing tradition of fostering our industry within our community”.
