In response to CAO's call, one employee answers Bully question
[This open letter sent to us is being reprinted without alteration]
After listening to the Board discussions about demanding respect in the workplace I was feeling hopeful and felt assured, for the first time, this Board was serious. It is no secret that there are other bullies that work for our county, but everyone knows it is the Auditor that has your staff working and living under fear and was the main reason for concern. We believed your Board finally understood what your staff has had to stomach for years. Finally the sexual harassment, the bullying, the employees that have been forced to leave or have left because they couldn't handle it anymore. Finally, the Supervisors, including yourself agrees they will look into the problem and do what they can to make it stop. Finally someone had the nerve to say Joe Harn's name publically, and share the known secret that we wished would have come out a long time ago. We finally see some hope at the end. And then Supervisor Veerkamp you ask the public to vote for Joe Harn by supporting his campaign. I would expect this of your predecessor but not you. You expect your employees to believe you can remain objective when you are saying one thing out of one side of your mouth and something else out of the other side? Many of us see that your reason for supporting this man means more than the health, welfare, morale to the employees and cost to the county. Maybe you should have thought of your employees and kept your vote and voice quiet. Wow! Thanks for deflating our hope that this is the Board of Supervisors that will make a difference. Mr. Harn is the master of manipulating people and playing the elected officials, a statement that you will have to consider.
Signed, an employee of El Dorado County that will remain nameless for obvious reasons.
CAO, Terry Daley
