Community Resource Center Closes on Broadway
The Community Resource Center will be closing its 1864 Broadway location to conserve resources and continue services to at-risk and homeless populations.
Founded to provide safe shelter, address the needs of the homeless and keep others in our community from becoming so, the CRC opened with a clear mission. However, due to an unforeseen vacuum in available community services, the CRC became more of an emergency day center than a home-provider and homelessness prevention office. Realizing resources, money, staff and volunteer time was continually spent on daily emergency issues and not on the original purpose for which the CRC was created, we made some difficult decisions.
After struggling for four years to shift back to its original model and enduring continued inability to pay staff, we will be closing the doors to the current location at 1864 Broadway and using available resources to provide safe housing, supportive services and homelessness prevention.
We are redefining our efforts to achieve maximum productivity, renewing our commitment to effectively address this marginalized population, and embracing lessons learned over the last years. Many of our services will remain intact; we will be launching a mobile volunteer force in the near future.
