El Dorado County Vet Asks for Help, Community Responds
Calling all El Dorado County residents! Can you help one of our own veterans in need? We are counting on your support to help our local disabled vet and his grandchildren.
The Military Family Support Group (MFSG) has become aware of a disabled veteran in our community who needs help. We first heard about this Don on the El Dorado Exchange Facebook page in January. Someone put out a cry for help in finding him a mobility chair and the next day the Military Family Support Group (in conjunction with the Disabled American Veterans, Hangtown Chapter) delivered a beautiful mobility chair to his doorstep.
This Vietnam-Era Veteran Marine was wounded in Beirut, and due to a shrapnel injury in his neck has difficulty with walking. Don became the sole legal guardian of his two grandchildren in 2011 whom are now 3 & 4 yrs old. The small home he purchased for retirement now requires some modifications, work, and organization due to the addition of his grandchildren. He wants them to have a home that is safe and clean...one they can be proud of!
Don has been an El Dorado County resident for 20 years, he attends Rolling Hills Church, he volunteers as State Director for SANDS which coordinates outdoor activities for vets, and he also volunteers on the EDC Head Start Parent Council.
We want to help for the kids’ sake and in honor of his sacrifices in serving our country.
OUR GOAL is to raise funds & donations of services in order to provide:
• Professional house cleaning & yard maintenance services
• Professional Tree Trimming services
• House Painting – interior & exterior
• Bedroom furniture/storage/linens & clothing/toys for the children
• Trailer hitch mounted mobility wheelchair carrier with tie-downs & weatherproof chair cover
• An airplane ride for the children!
The Military Family Support Group is an all-volunteer local non-profit organization dedicated to supporting local military families. Visit our website MFSGonline.org for more information.
