Hwy 49 reopens hours after 'suspicious' house fire near Placerville
Flames spread from the basement into the attic creating a dangerous situation for firefighters battling the fire and they had to pull out.
Highway 49 near Placerville reopened Monday afternoon after an hours-long closure prompted by a suspicious house fire.
The highway was blocked off in both directions at 193, just north of Placerville, according to the state's transportation department.
The house fire took place in the 2600 block of Coloma Street. The home had been abandoned for several years.
More details on why the fire was deemed "suspicious" by investigators aren't known at this time.
