Live Band Karaoke brings out your inner rock star at the EDC Fair
Jody Gray, El Dorado County Fair, May 17, 2012Ray Rodarte and the members of Karaoke Rockstarz, are excited to bring something to the El Dorado County Fair that is even better than karaoke: the chance for people to sing their favorite songs in front of a real live band! During Saturday and Sunday of Fair, June 16-17, Fair goers will have the chance to do just that and feel like a true rock star!
The thought of karaoke often conjures up images of public embarrassment, good fun with friends and maybe even a few drinks. The reality however, is that being “on stage” during a typical karaoke night means standing next to a machine singing along to a debauched instrumental version of a popular song over a bar’s PA system. Which can be fun when those few drinks turn to many, but not quite the memorable experience you might have been hoping for.
Karaoke Rockstarz will perform throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday, but don’t miss Saturday night’s performance when representatives from bars throughout the area compete for first prize and claim the title of a true Karaoke Rock Star! The competition begins at 6pm on the Red Hawk Casino Stage, and is open to all bars and no pre-registration is required. Representatives are encouraged to wear their bar’s memorabilia as well as introduce which bar they represent. CEO of Fair Jody Gray explains, “This can be a fun and unique way for bars who offer karaoke to promote their business. The winner even receives a trophy to be displayed in the bar they are representing!” The fun continues after the competition as the band welcomes audience members to take the stage and unleash their inner rock star.
Live band karaoke is exactly what the name describes. Combining the best of karaoke with the dynamic energy of a cover band, Fair goers will have the opportunity to pick their favorite song out of the 200 songs the band offers, wait for their name to be called and then take the stage to perform in front of a crowd of enthusiastic listeners. Whether you were born to be a star or haven’t let your singing progress past your shower, Live Band Karaoke is fun for everyone! Rodarte explains, “We’ve all sung along at the top of our voice to a song in the car and thought about what it would be like to be on stage. Who hasn’t? So that’s what we do. We offer people their chance at 15 minutes of fame.”
Rodarte and the Karaoke Rockstarz got their start playing every Monday night for seven months straight at Brew Brothers in Reno, Nevada. Joined on stage by drummer Gary Setzer, bassist Dave Edwards, and Tina Fink on keys and acoustic guitar, the group often played to a packed house each night. London native, Mansfield-Cholico serves as emcee and Haley Bond, who mingles with the audience and signs people up for each set, completes the group. The group now tours up and down the west coast to fairs all over California, and will make their El Dorado County Fair debut on Saturday, June 16 and play encore performances on Sunday, June 17.
Live Band Karaoke is a great experience for those who love to perform or even just watch. For those who are a little hesitant about taking the stage the band insists that with Mansfield-Cholico and Fink singing back-up and assistance from the competent band, regardless of how well or poorly one might think they sound, it’s extremely difficult for someone to not put on a great show.
