New Birth Center at Marshall is a welcome addition
In early 2013, Marshall’s new Birth Center opened to the public. Since then, it’s proven to be a welcome addition for families deciding where to have their babies.
“We’ve seen an approximate 9 percent birth rate increase over our old maternity unit in 2013. To date, we’ve welcomed over 500 new lives into the world compared with 465 in 2012. Recently, a couple from Fairfield purposely chose to deliver their baby at Marshall Birth Center,” said Deena Purdy, RNC, director of Marshall Birth Center.
The last year proved challenging and exciting for the staff of the Birth Center. From having a dedicated operating room in the unit for C-sections, to the sheer size increase, which went from 4,400 square feet to nearly 19,000 square feet, there have been challenges but the staff reportedly met each one with openness and excitement.
“The wonderful private rooms and level of care, comfort and amenities we can offer our patients is a source of pride. Parents are choosing to stay longer too, since we have plenty of room for families now. Our average length of stay has increased from two days to nearly three. We’re all very excited and honored to be able to offer this level of care to our community,” said Purdy.
