BOLO: Lookout for Escaped Sexual Predator staying at Homeless Shelters
A dangerous sex assault suspect with a violent past is on the loose. Police tell us 28-year-old Kevin A. Briggs was being questioned for a reported rape and assault with a knife when he escaped the Gallatin County Law and Justice Center on foot.
"The biggest thing that could help us is that the public is aware of what he looks like and they call us if they see somebody that looks like this subject," Gallatin County detective Crawford says.
The FBI asked Friday for the public’s help in tracking him down.
Kevin Anthony Briggs should be considered armed and dangerous, suicidal and a flight risk, according to a wanted bulletin issued by the Salt Lake City division of the FBI.
“Wish we had more, but this is all I can provide at this time,” an FBI spokesman said Friday in an email.
The bulletin said Briggs has used seven aliases — including Kevin Bacon — and four birth dates, three of them in January 1986 and another of April 30, 1989.
Briggs was last seen in Missoula early Feb. 2, a Sunday, after telling Matthew Keiss he intended to travel to Seattle. Keiss told Bozeman police on Feb. 4 that Briggs said he would bounce around homeless shelters until he earned enough money to head south to Mexico, “where he eventually planned to take a ship across the Atlantic Ocean and get to Russia, where Briggs is aware there is no extradition,” according to charging documents filed in U.S. District Court in Missoula.
The affidavit said an unnamed man gave Briggs a ride to the Missoula bus depot and money to buy a one-way ticket to Spokane, Wash.
The FBI listed Briggs as white with hazel eyes and brown hair, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7 and weighing 120-150 pounds. He has a double “snake bite” piercing and a tattoo on his lower lip, another tattoo in his armpit and a sunburst tattoo around his right nipple.
Briggs also has pierced ears and a bellybutton piercing. He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a dark hooded jacket or parka, black shoes and a dark baseball cap. He may attempt to change his appearance by growing out his hair and beard and coloring his hair black, investigators said.
The FBI said that besides Kevin Briggs and Kevin A. Briggs, the fugitive has used the aliases Kevin Bacon, Aimee MacIntire, Timothy McCoy, James Meismer, and James Zenon Meismer.
