Mountain Democrat prints Lies in the letters section
RIPLEY HOWE, May 17, 2012Opinion: I wish that the Mountain Democrat would stop printing letters containing lies and fabrications.
In the May 9 issue, your paper ran a letter, "Why I support Taylor," that stated: "Mr. Veerkamp (candidate for County Supervisor, District 3) supports the controversial $150 habitable structure Fire Protection Fee ..." This, and much that followed, is purely false. In fact, Mr. Veerkamp has often spoken against the fee, and has circulated petitions opposing it. I am not a supporter of Mr. Veerkamp, and I don't even live in his district. I am simply saddened and disgusted by your paper's apparent policy of printing letters with no regard for their truth or accuracy.
The Mountain Democrat has a journalistic duty not to print lies and distortions about people, whatever the forum.
