‘Fill the Boot for Burns’ fundraiser Saturday
The Amador-El Dorado Unit of Cal Fire will be holding its 12th annual Fill the Boot for Burns fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 15 in Cameron Park. The fundraiser will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be three locations where one can simply drive by and donate: the corners of Cameron Park Drive and Coach Lane, Merrychase Drive and Cambridge Road, and Green Valley Road and Cameron Park Drive.
“Money raised from this event goes towards sending young burn victims to burn camps, to research programs for the advancement of burn treatment and rehabilitation practices and to purchase new equipment for the UC Davis Burn Center,” said Unit Chief Mike Kaslin. “Last year we raised $20,000 through the generosity of our community, this year our goal is to raise $25,000 for the Firefighters Burn Institute.
“Each year I am amazed at the outpouring of money for this fundraiser and I believe everyone understands that not only are burns a lifelong injury but that they are especially devastating to children. I must say that our community is the best there is and it is an honor to live and work here.”
The Firefighters Burn Institute is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded by the Sacramento Area Firefighters Local 522 in 1973, for the purpose of establishing a local burn treatment facility; providing recovery programs for burn survivors; providing fire and burn prevention through public education; funding education for burn team professionals, firefighters and burn survivors; and supporting burn treatment and rehabilitation research.
