DIVIDE BUSINESS WALK RESULTS
The Divide Chamber area had not completed their walk at that time and results are now available. Congratulations to all the volunteers who participated in the 2013 Business Walk and especially those on the Divide. I believe this is one of two local chamber with no paid staff support: All work is volunteers and to be applauded! This area has unique challenges for the business community, including topography and geography. The proliferation of increasing online accessibility and speed (Broadband) should serve to boost any information and communication gaps between the Divide and the Highway 50 areas, to the benefit of all.
Business Walk results showed a surprising 68% of respondents reporting the business climate is “good or great”; 13% said it was “steady or fair” and 20% report it’s “slow or poor”. The slow/poor respondents cited the economy overall and so far a failure to recover from it. Thirty-two percent of those reporting negatively expressed concern for the limited resources of their customers, for their businesses’ failure to return to pre-recession levels, and pointed to state regulations that cost businesses so much money.
Overall it seems that 68% is a pretty high satisfaction rate in the current US economic climate. Surveys are always personal and especially so with small, local firms, but this one also seems to indicate a very positive outlook for the Divide area, as if many business people are satisfied and enjoy the work they’re involved in. A total of 40 businesses were interviewed. For a comprehensive look at the Business Walk report go to: http://www.edcgov.us/Government/Economic/BusinessWalks/2013_Divide_Chamb....
