Shadow Ranch Welcomes Visitors
Explore the 3,600 square foot production facility as Shadow Ranch winemaker and owner Sam Patterson rolls out his 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012 Petite Sirah and 2012 Zinfandel barrels to taste.
“The year 2012 is an excellent vintage with an even growing season and one of the best I’ve seen. With no rain, no frost, no storms and no wind meant a good fruit set, with slightly-higher-than-average yields. That was followed by a mild summer, with warm, sunny days and cool nights. The ideal growing conditions have produced wines high in overall quality and balance,” said Patterson.
Everyone is invited to enjoy the friendly atmosphere at the vineyard.
The open house will feature Adam Beasley playing original acoustic music with the cellar oak wine barrels as a cozy backdrop and light bites will be served to pair with the wine tasting.
The tasting room will also be open and feature the full Shadow Ranch portfolio.
The facility known as the “cellar” can produce up to 7,000 cases of wine annually. The refrigerated barrel storage will house 550 barrels, ferment 100 tons of fruit in temperature controlled fermentation tanks as well as serve as a future home for the laboratory, commercial kitchen and offices.
The vineyard property currently has a walnut orchard, pumpkins and organic gardens.
Patterson’s vision for the ranch includes planting olive and fruit trees, lavender and raising cattle.
Patterson recently was awarded a double gold medal at the 2014 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon and a gold for 2011 Zinfandel Reserve.
Shadow Ranch is a small, family owned winery located in the heart of the Fair Play American Viticultural Area. Built in 1888, the homestead, old barn and original outbuildings have a rustic Gold Rush era feel atop a picturesque hilltop in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
Shadow Ranch produces small batch, single vineyard wines from high elevation sites throughout El Dorado County.
