Berkeley's Tuolumne Camp Relocates to South Lake Tahoe
The city of Berkeley has named the new camp Berkeley Sierra Family Camp at Echo Lake.
The five-week long camp will operate from June 21-July 7, July 11-20, and July 25-August 4. Registration will begin Feb. 12 for Berkeley residents and February 19th for non-residents.
More information on rates and schedules will be posted sometime this week, according to the city's recreational website.
Echo Lake Camp is a smaller site then Tuolumne, offering 33 cabins and 140 meals, as opposed to 72 cabins and 280 meals that Tuolumne provided, Berkeleyside reported.
Activities at the camp will include volleyball, bocce ball, archery, disc-golf, swimming and basketball.
To make room for the temporary camp, the annual summer's youth camp will be shortened to three weeks instead of its usual six weeks.
Efforts to keep traditional Tuolumne activities alive are still in the process, Berkeley's public information officer Matthew Chakko told Berkeleyside.
