Shingle Springs Probation Department Evacuated
A bomb squad was called to the Shingle Springs probation facility.
The El Dorado County Sheriff's Department said reports of the suspicious device came in around 7 a.m. for the building at 3974 Durock Road.
Investigators found the pipe wrapped in cardboard. Before the bomb squad opened the device, the 25 employees were evacuated.
The device was found on the door of a probation department building and it is unclear how it was placed there, deputies said.
The scene has been cleared, the Sheriff's Department said.
No injuries were reported.
At 7:00 AM this morning (Monday 01/06/14) a suspicious device was reported at the El Dorado County Probation Department in Shingle Springs. A section of pipe (approximately 8" X 1.5") that was capped on both ends was observed on the ground in front of the main entrance to the facility. A make shift fuse appeared to be attached to the object. The object appeared to have been hastily dropped by unknown individuals.
Deputies responded to the location and secured the area. 25 Probation Office personnel were safely evacuated from the building as Sheriff’s Office Explosive Ordnance Demolition (EOD) personnel responded. EOD personnel investigated the object and rendered it safe with no injuries or property damage. EOD personnel believed the object was in fact an explosive device that had malfunctioned.
By 10:00 AM the area was cleared of any danger with the investigation continuing. The below picture of the device was taken at the scene.
