Pollock Pines and Camino Work day to honor MLK
Dr. Martin Luther King never stopped asking the question, "What are you doing for others?" The MLK Day of Service is a moment to work together to fulfill King's vision for a better America - it's a day "on" instead of a day off.
The Community Economic Development Association of Pollock Pines, the Dogwood Garden Club and the Pollock Pines-Camino Rotary Club announce service plans for the 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.
Local volunteers are being encouraged to join the organizations in helping to put a fresh look on the Boys and Girls Club in Pollock Pines and the Pollock Pines-Camino Community Center.
On Monday, Jan. 20, volunteers wearing commemorative T-shirts will work on the facilities from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., painting and refurbishing exteriors and interiors of both facilities.
According to organizers, Dr. King’s work and message impacted many aspects of society and are more pertinent today than ever before. He invested a deeper meaning into the “beloved community” of America where brotherhood is a reality that does not allow poverty, hunger or homelessness to exist.
MLK Day is the perfect opportunity to kick-off a new service year by joining the groups with your time, talent and/or treasure in helping to revitalize various buildings and structures that make Pollock Pines a unique place to live, work and play — Nature’s Wonderland.
