Tahoe College will offer 'Ski Trails' this winter
Tyler Cannon and Lake Tahoe Community College are hoping for a nice blanket of South Shore snow to launch the Nordic Ski Center and some new groomed cross-country ski trails on the college property.
Cannon and the college’s Connect Community Education program partnered in 2012, but the initiative wasn’t ready to go until the end of that ski season and there wasn’t much snow.
“This year we’re ready to go from the start,” Cannon said.
The Nordic Ski Center is meant to bring a Nordic presence to the South Shore. Cannon bought a small snowmobile and some skate track and classical track groomers from Max Jones, who used to groom ski trails at Spooner Lake.
“We asked if this was possible on the college property and through some elbow grease and a little pushing we a got a real good go-for-it by the board of directors at the college. We put a program together, formed the agreements and here we are, ready to roll,” Cannon said.
Now he’s just hoping for some snow.
With perfect snow conditions the college property could offer as much as seven kilometers of groomed trails with dedicated lanes for classic stride skis, skate skis, snowshoes and walkers.
