Firefighters ask Apple Hill visitors to join in 'Fill the Boot' fundraising effort
Visitors to Apple Hill during the next two weekends will have an opportunity to join firefighters in an annual fundraising effort.
Employees of the El Dorado-Amador Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection will be conducting their "Fill the Boot" drive on behalf of the Muscular Dysrtophy Association/Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Able's Apple Acres at Hassler and Carson Roads and on Oct. 19 at High Hill Ranch, 2901 High Hill Road.
"El Dorado County residents and Apple Hill visitors have been enormously generous in filling the boot in the past and we expect that they will give what they can again this year," Cal Fire Unit Chief Kelly Keenan said in a written statement.
Statewide last year, Cal Fire employees raised $440,627. Over the past five years, Cal Fire has raised more than $1.8 million, placing it No. 2 nationwide in fundraising efforts for muscular dystrophy and Lou Gehrig's disease, or ALS...
