Folsom Papa John's closes doors on payday, leaving employees confused
FOLSOM, CA - For many, payday means seeing your name on a check, receiving money for work completed and the comfort of knowing bills will be paid. For employees of Papa John's in Folsom, this was not the case. On Friday, the doors were locked and notices posted on the windows instructed employees to seek unemployment.
The employees are paid the 5th and the 20th of the month, according to those who worked there. The pizzeria closed on payday.
For 32-year-old Joshua Bailey, it was a shock.
"Well, this sucks," he said as he approached the shuttered restaurant. "It's payday. What are we supposed to do?"
Bailey began calling family and tried to sort out how his life was just turned upside down.
"We were open last night and I worked last night. They didn't say anything," Bailey said. "The owners may not have cared (about the business), but the employees did."
What makes it even a tougher pill to swallow for Bailey is the recent addition to his family.
"My kid is six months old. We just had him," he said. "This just screwed my life." ...
