Tahoe-to-Placerville - High-Speed Chase ends in Head-On
A South Lake Tahoe CHP officer at about 10 p.m., noticed the right headlight of a 1998 Dodge Stratus traveling westbound on Highway 50 at Mt. Ralson Road was not working. e attempted an enforcement stop but the suspect vehicle failed to pull over. A pursuit ensued and the CHP unit lost sight of the suspect
A short time later, a Placerville CHP unit saw the same vehicle on Highway 50 near Camino traveling in excess of 100 mph.
A spike strip was set up on the highway at Point View Drive, but the suspect was able to avoid it, continuing into Placerville. The suspect crossed over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic just west of Canal Street, where it struck a white 2009 Porsche Cayman head-on.
The suspect, Edward Aveytia of Fairfield, allegedly resisted arrest as he was taken into custody. He sustained moderate injuries due to the collision and is being investigated for possible driving while under the influence. The male driver of the Porsche sustained minor injuries while a female passenger sustained major injuries. All three were transported to Marshall Hospital, El Dorado County Fire Division Chief Mike Pott said.
