EDSO recruiting female correctional officers for Placerville and South Lake Tahoe jails
Two types of positions are open, but both have the same general guidelines: Under general supervision both positions will maintain security and ensure the welfare of inmates in one of the two county jails. They will also oversee jail activities and facilities during an assigned shift.
Correctional Officer I is the entry-level position. There will be close supervision, learning and performing jail-related duties. Greater independence is given as experience is gained. This position may be staffed by Correctional Officer II employees. Advancement to Correctional Officer II is available pending experience and demonstrating proficiency. A high school diploma or GED is required.
Correctional Officer II is the “journey” level position available. This position is for those fully competent in performing their duties. It is not a public officer position and does not have assigned patrol duties. Training will be given in a corrections officer academy rather than a basic law enforcement academy. This position requires completion of a state-certified jail operations course, first aid and CPR course in addition to one year of experience equivalent to the county’s class of Correctional Officer I.
