The U.S. Forest Service has lifted seasonal road closures in the Eldorado National Forest.
Every year, dirt roads and trails are closed in winter because of the potential damage caused when they are wet or muddy.
For the past two years, the roads have been closed past traditional open dates because of late rains.
"The recent warm weather dried out most of the lower elevation dirt routes," said Forest Supervisor Kathy Hardy, in a prepared release. "As a result, I'm opening the majority of these routes to motorized vehicle use.
However, 42 roads that go through, skirt or affect meadows remain closed due to a court order.
