Local Taekwondo team controls the challengers in the Bay Area Open Taekwondo Championship
Elite Taekwondo USA of Cameron Park competed in Los Altos on Aug. 3 at the Bay Area Open Taekwondo Championship.
The participants, coached by Chief Master John Jonghun Yi, competed against some of the Bay Area’s strongest competitors.
It was only a few minutes into the Poomsae competition before the team set a winning tone. Danny Doorty won Gold in the 8-9 male Red Belt Division. Soon afterwards, Annabella Adams struck Gold in the 10-11 female Green Belt Division, followed by a Silver medal performance by Justin Jones in the 8-9 male Red Belt Division and another Gold medal, this time awarded to Megan Whitson in the 8-9 female Red Belt Division.
To finish off the morning, George Kucera took the Gold in the 10-11 male Red Belt Division as by Quinci Whitson was also winning Gold in the 10-11 female Red Belt Division. By the lunch break, the team had secured one Silver medal and five Gold medals.
The team continued controlling the challengers as the competition shifted to Sparring in the afternoon. Megan Whitson won the Gold in the 8-9 female Red Belt Fin-weight Division, followed quickly by Justin Jones taking the Silver in the 8-9 male Red Belt Heavy-weight Division. Next, Quinci Whitson dominated her opponents and took the Gold medal in the 10-11 yrs female Red Belt Light-weight Division with a final score 6-0.
The team’s day ended as spectacularly as it had begun; George Kucera secured the Gold medal in the 10-11 male Red Belt Heavy-weight Division, winning the gold medal match 11-3.
The six-member team competed in 10 events, securing eight Gold and two Silver medals.
Elite Taekwondo USA is currently training for the UC Davis Open in Davis in late October.
