What do Detroit, Michigan, Stockton, California, and the El Dorado Irrigation District have in common? All have engaged in deficit spending policies and have accrued substantial debt relative to their revenues.
As a result of the current EID Board of Director’s policies, water and sewer rates are surging to pay for escalating spending and debt service. Left unaddressed, crippling debts and unfunded liabilities will threaten financial futures of many cities, states and agencies such as EID.
The candidates for the two open director’s seats on the El Dorado Irrigation District board will speak about their concerns and remedies for improving the EID. Each candidate will have time to make their case but will also be asked to comment on the most pressing issues that the district faces in the coming years such as increased residential development, heavy debt load, deficit spending, and unfunded pension and health obligations.
All of the candidates for the open EID director seats for district 2 and 4 have been invited to participate in an open forum that will address the issues that the district will be facing in the coming years. The election will be held on November 5, 2013.
