Free admission to Great Gatsby Festival and Tea at Tallac Historic Site from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday & Sunday, August 10-11
Spanning Saturday and Sunday, the festival offers a wide variety of ‘20s-themed activities. The Tahoe Tallac Association and Tahoe Heritage Foundation team up each year to put on the homage to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel.
“Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 5 we have a lot of great activities. It’s completely family friendly,” Tallac Historic Site Assistant Site Director Tami Africa told Lake Tahoe Action. “There are a lot of activities for the kids in the style of the ‘20s. You can get a ride in one of our vintage automobiles. There’s free music. We have a speakeasy for those who are old enough to enjoy that, but we also have root beer.”
Attendees will find period-appropriate food, crafts, activities, automobiles, silent movies, a silent auction and more.
Special tours of the historic Pope House will be available, complete with historic interpreters.
“The highlights of the festival are the Pope House tours,” Africa said. “Everyone’s dressed up and they’re playing characters. You’ll meet George Pope and his wife. You’ll meet some of the maids and butlers. Rudolph Valentino will be there.”
