Women’s Fund Announces a New Scholarship

The Women’s Fund El Dorado is proud to announce the first year of an annual scholarship, the Wickline Scholar Award.

The creation of this award began in 2009 when Marian Wickline left a legacy gift to the El Dorado Community Foundation. When the foundation learned of Wickline's pride of graduating from Mills College in 1934 and being one of very few women completing her studies to become a chemist, the executive director, grants committee and board of directors decided that a perfect way to honor Wickline’s gift would be through the Women’s Fund El Dorado.

The Women’s Fund was offered a grant of $10,000 from the Wickline legacy gift. With that grant came a challenge: If the Women’s Fund could raise a matching amount of $10,000 by April 15, the foundation would add an additional $30,000 to its endowed fund for the purpose of creating the Wickline Scholar award.

The Women’s Fund proceeded with an outreach campaign to friends, family, and fellow donor members, and succeeded in reaching its goal in February. This $50,000 of combined gifts in this endowed fund will enable the Women’s Fund to offer this award on an annual basis for generations to come.

The Wickline Scholar Award is available to women residing on the western slope of El Dorado County who are re-entering school to pursue an undergraduate or vocational degree that will assist them in overcoming personal difficulties.
