Thompson's Auto Centers donates to assist firefighter training efforts
A number of area firefighters and first responders will soon be benefiting from a generous donation of vehicles by Thompson's Auto and Truck Centers of Placerville. Such benefits will come in the form of hands on training for vehicle extrication at the Georgetown Fire Department Training facility.
The local auto dealership recently donated two late model vehicles to the Georgetown Fire Department. A 1996 Toyota Avalon and a 1995 Ford Taurus were delivered to the district's training center located on Wentworth Springs Road in Georgetown. The donation was made by Thompson's Auto and Truck Centers in collaboration with Extreme Towing of Placerville, who delivered the vehicles.
These donated vehicles will be put to work in upcoming training exercises in which firefighters will utilize their extrication equipment on the vehicles, also known as the Hurst Tool or the Jaws of Life. Such training efforts will not only benefit firefighters from Georgetown but will include trainees from Garden Valley and El Dorado County who will likely attend the events, according to Greg Bueghly, Captain of the Georgetown Fire Department.
"We really want to thank Thompson's Auto Centers for the generous donation of these vehicles," said Bueghly. "We will get a lot of use out of these two cars to train our fire fighters on rescue efforts. It really helps to have later model vehicles like this because these are common vehicles that are on the road today and we can become more familiar with them and best techniques to get into them with our equipment when the time comes."
Bueghly, along with Thompson's Auto Centers and Extreme Towing want to encourage the public to donate their unwanted vehicles to their local fire departments for these types of training purposes. The vehicle you donate, may very well play a role in saving your life one day with well trained first responders that are educated in the best way for vehicular extrication efforts right here in El Dorado County.
Thompson's Auto and Truck Centers has four locations to serve you in El Dorado County. Thompson's Buick, GMC is located at 55 Placerville Drive.
