Cassandra Smalley in Critical Condition after Falling from Ponderosa Road Overpass

Sheriff's deputies responded to the overpass at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, after receiving a report that the woman was climbing the road sign attached to the overpass.

Deputies stopped traffic on Ponderosa Road and Highway 50 while they attempted to the Cameron Park resident to safety.

The woman was walking on the grated platform attached to the sign on the east side of the overpass, above westbound lanes.

She was described as agitated and uncooperative, and eventually lost her balance and fell to the roadway.
