Mobile food pantry makes debut in El Dorado Hills
The Food Bank of El Dorado County today unveiled a new way to get food to the needy.
Partnering with Rolling Hills Christian Church in El Dorado Hills, the food banks’ mobile pantry set up shop in the parking lot, distributing food to hungry families.
Mike Sproull, with the food bank, said it’s about reaching those in need.
“This is the debut of our new rural outreach mobile food pantry,” he said as volunteers set up shop and worked out a system for distribution. “It’s going to feed people throughout the county. Next is Pollock Pines and South Lake Tahoe.”
Church volunteer Marti Russ called out numbers, getting people in line to receive help.
Sproull said the 36-foot-long pantry is designed to feed 200 families when it rolls into a rural area.
Deb Wiklund, volunteering through the church, was enthusiastic as people waited patiently in chairs in the church parking lot.
“This is just wonderful,” she said of the pantry.
