Mental Health First Aid Training Coming to Placerville

The El Dorado County Health and Human Services Agency, Mental Health Division is offering an important community training series for members of the public entitled “Mental Health First Aid.”  The free, interactive training will arm the public with skills to help identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance abuse disorders. 

“This training is internationally recognized and has been very well received in the communities where we have provided it,” said Ren Scammon, program manager with the El Dorado County Mental Health Division. “Participants will develop skills and knowledge to help connect individuals in crisis with appropriate professional, peer and self-help care.”

The training is intended for people with a general interest in mental health issues, people who have frequent contact with the public and anyone who may be in a position to provide help to individuals experiencing distress due to stressful situations, trauma or crisis. 

The Mental Health First Aid training series will be conducted over two days: Tuesday, March 12, and Wednesday March 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at 681 Main Street, Suite #207 in Placerville.  To be certified in Mental Health First Aid, participants must attend both days of the training.  Registration is required.
