

MAJOR RAILROAD EVENT ON THE PLACERVILLE BRANCH
Rail Daze, a major community event on the rails of the Placerville Branch will be held on May 12-13, 2012. The purpose of this festival is to raise the level of public awareness of the importance of protecting and preserving this rail corridor, considered to be the oldest railroad west of the Mississippi.
Recreational Railroad Coalition Historical Society will coordinate this railroad activity which will feature vintage, privately owned maintenance of way rail cars (aka: speeders) and the 1914 electric streetcar which plied the streets of Sacramentomanydecades ago. Speeders will run from the Hampton Inn on Placerville Rd. and Highway 50 to Latrobe where a speeder turning pad has been constructed.
