Rail Daze - Railroad Event on the Placerville Branch

MAJOR RAILROAD EVENT ON THE PLACERVILLE BRANCH

Rail Daze, a major community event on the rails of the Placerville Branch will be held on May 12-13, 2012. The purpose of this festival is to raise the level of public awareness of the importance of protecting and preserving this rail corridor, considered to be the oldest railroad west of the Mississippi. 

Recreational Railroad Coalition Historical Society will coordinate this railroad activity which will feature vintage, privately owned maintenance of way rail cars (aka: speeders) and the 1914 electric streetcar which plied the streets of Sacramentomanydecades ago. Speeders will run from the Hampton Inn on Placerville Rd. and Highway 50 to Latrobe where a speeder turning pad has been constructed.

Recreational Railroad Coalition Historical Society is co-owner of the Amador Central Railroad in Amador County as well as leaser ofthe Linden Branch of the Stockton Terminal & Eastern Railroad in San Joaquin County.  Public rides will be offered on the speeders as well as in the streetcar.

Rail Daze, a local Sacramento/El Dorado County event will be held in conjunction with the National Rail Day event.
