Machine taking credit card information in Tahoe - "skimmer" at Safeway gas pump

I was recently skimmed locally and my card info was used to buy gas at two local gas stations ($100+), PV Walmart ($193) and various "Inmate Calling Services" ($200). Very irritating and the bank had to swallow the loss (we ALL lose due to this!). They tell me their bank fraud investigators have the info, but prosecution is unlikely as they are after bigger fish. My bank told me the ED Sheriff does not have staff to pursue these crimes, so I did not report it to them at the time. Turns out they do care and do have staff to pursue such "local" crimes. Problem is 15 to 30 days have lapsed since the purchases and the video from these places where the fraud was committed has likely been recorded over! DAMN! * Lesson learned: Don't be discouraged to report these crimes in a timely manner. We would have a better chance to lock up a local dirt bag who is preying on us! We are losing money in "small" increments to these types of crimes. Sooner or later it all adds up and we all end up paying for this slow bleeding. The problem is; Small crimes lead to big crimes!! Sweat the small stuff by reporting and ultimately preventing these crimes. A person in jail will commit fewer crimes than when they are on the loose! Ken Greenwood
