Accident kills one, injuries another

A 1993 blue Ford Ranger was traveling westbound on Sly Park Road at 1:25 p.m., going between 50 and 60 mph when it traveled off the north shoulder, CHP Officer Quinn Cuthbertson said. The truck fishtailed, rotating clockwise towards Shell Lane. “It struck a tree with the driver door,” Cuthbertson said.

The passenger of the vehicle, Lisa Papkov, 41, of Placerville, was ejected from the car, sustaining major injuries. She was later life-flighted to a hospital by a Cal Star helicopter. “As far as I know, she lived,” Cuthbertson said on Feb. 11. The driver, Simeon Papkov, 65, of Placerville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

... Neither were wearing seat belts, Cuthbertson said, and it is unknown if any alcohol was involved.
