Guest Speaker Sherry Huntting at El Dorado Hills Arts Association
, Academy of Classical Realism......A Dream Come True
A graduate of Brigham Young University, Sherry Huntting says, “As long as I can remember, I have been drawing, painting or designing something. It is as much a part of my life as breathing. I can’t think of anything more gratifying than creating beautiful art.” Sherry is a practicing artist whose favorite genres are landscapes, seascapes, still life and portraiture.
Huntting has completed extensive training in the classical methods of painting from Frank Covino. He said of her, “Sherry has the unique qualification of a masterful artist who can also teach the elements of classical academism to any student.”
Sherry Huntting Academy of Classical Realism was first opened to students in 2000 at Utrecht Art Supplies in Sacramento, California, but is now located at Sherry’s studio in Cameron Park. The academy is unique in that it is geared to the serious students who cannot attend art school full time, but want to learn to paint in the classical realistic manner. The classes are kept small so students can get individualized attention, as well as learn from watching the teacher work with their colleagues. This makes the academy a great option for those who want one-on-one attention.
There is a reason for everything in the curriculum. The step-by-step system, when followed, results in outstanding works of art. In the beginning, the students will copy the masters applying the techniques that the masters used for centuries. After the students have developed to a certain level of expertise, they begin composing their own paintings. We strive for museum quality in the classical European tradition.
