Sheriff John D’Agostini is pleased to announce the scheduling of the 2013 Citizen’s Academy for residents of El Dorado County. The academy is a great way to learn the many facets of the Sheriff’s Office. The courses provided during the academy are presented by Sheriff’s personnel who carry out the duties outlined in the course content:
• Criminal investigations
• Crime scene investigations
• Ride along with a deputy
• K9 program
• Gangs
• Narcotics
• Traffic stops
• Community relations
• Patrol functions
• Property crimes
• Search and Seizure
• Court decisions
By the end of the academy, citizens will have developed a better understanding of the guidelines under which an officer functions and why officers handle situations the way they do. Also discussed is the role of law enforcement and how members of the community can come together to address serious crime and social issues.
The academy is offered periodically and continues for 14 weeks. The class runs one night each week, (typically Tuesdays) from 6 to 9 p.m. The next academy is scheduled to begin on March 19, 2013 and will end June 25, 2013. The academy classes are held at the Sheriff’s Placerville OES training facility. The Citizen’s Academy is offered on a first-come first-served basis to El Dorado County residents and is free of charge.
This program has been very well received and enjoyed by all who have participated in the past. Academy applications are available on the Sheriff’s Website at edcgov.us/Government/Sheriff/Programs/Citizen_s_Academy.aspx.
