It’s quite common at the beginning of the year to reflect on the previous year … the good, the bad and the ugly. We sometimes use it as a blueprint for changes we hope to make. To that end, as a past president of the board of the New Morning Youth & Services agency in Placerville, I would like to offer a resource to parents and youth of our community: New Morning. Its mission is to “Change lives. Restore hope.” It offers those in need neutral territory and an objective third party.
Let’s be honest, even the best parent or model student sometimes need non-judgmental voices to help navigate the challenges of “day-to-day stuff.” New Morning offers that and more: resources and experts who help develop coping skills to diffuse what can sometimes escalate to tragic situations.
Regrettably, there is a stigma associated with those who require these types of resources. I’m here to tell your readers to place their reservations, embarrassment and anything else blocking their way at the back door. Life is precious. Life is short. And as the retired sheriff who worked in this community for more than 30 years, I’d rather they swallow their pride and fear. If they need these types of resources, seek it now rather than grief counseling later.
I invite your readers to log on to the New Morning Website at newmorningyfs.org to learn more. Through the generous donation of Jeanie Redmond, Bill Thorpe and Sweet Mix Media we have posted a short video that shares testimonials of clients, therapists and staff.

testimonial…
“My daughter is a good student ... my friends tell me they wish their kids were more like mine. ... one night, my daughter felt like her life had become more than she could handle. A teen hotline referred her to New Morning’s Youth Shelter, where she spent the next ten days. I’m very proud of my daughter. She didn’t run away from her problems. Instead, she got all of us the professional help we needed.” - Parent
